Considering an MBA?
I pursued my MBA to broaden my business acumen, round out my focus on communications, and to equip myself with more career options.
I believe education and learning is a path to personal empowerment. However, pursuing your MBA can be especially intimidating when you don’t come from a business background, aka you don’t have an undergrad business degree.
I was fortunate to have a couple of women in my life that fearlessly pursued their MBA and encouraged me to do the same when I was trying to figure out my next steps. These are some of the factors that helped me decide whether taking on the financial responsibility of pursuing an MBA was right for me:
I found myself working in FinComm promoting investment vehicles, but I didn't have a big-picture understanding of the business landscape surrounding different industries. I wanted to know more and was spending a lot of my free time reading Investopedia to understand the finance industry.
Pursuing my MBA would provide the opportunity to work with others in different industries and with different specialties. I also wanted to understand management and operations principles to be more savvy when advocating for PR and Communications at the C-level.
My husband reminded me that pursuing my MBA meant looking beyond the short-term impact it would have on my career, to see the long-term gain it would provide for our family and myself as a woman in business. I wanted to ensure that I have career flexibility and always knew that I wanted to create my own business and design my work life. Earning my MBA empowered me with choices to own my career.
Going back to school is one of the most rewarding investments I've made in myself. Are you considering an MBA? Leave a comment below if you’re trying to decide if business school is right for you.
